Today, let’s take a look at the group called “Kings of concepts” by many. Since its debut in 2019, ONEUS got called many nicknames, but one that everyone agreed on is “Kings of concepts”. Why is that? Not only musically speaking, but also through the aesthetic of their MVs, and many of their dances, ONEUS has experimented with various genres and concepts so far, and it feels like it’s only the beginning.   Going back to their debut, they entered the K-Pop industry with a fantastic concept of angels, which left fans mesmerized by the beauty of the MV and the visuals of the group.  You could see LeeDo with wings toward the end of the MV. The music style was regular pop, but the album did include a ballad song ‘Red Thread’. You might also want to listen to the more recent remake of ‘Valkyrie’ in a rock version! This got followed by ONEUS’ first comeback with ‘Twilight’. In this second MV, ONEUS went for a royal and fantasy concept as the MV was mostly entirely filmed in a castle in Italy, but the members still appear as some mystical creatures (such as werewolves…). As a rookie group at that time, ONEUS did not explore many musical genres at that time. It is starting from their second comeback ‘Lit’ that ONEUS explored new genres both physically and musically. ‘Lit’ is representative of the Korean traditional style, in the MV, the members are dressed in traditional outfits, and parts of the MV were also filmed in a studio resembling traditional Korean houses. When it comes to music, the concept of traditional Korean style goes as far as the lyrics as many traditional words and expressions were used to write the lyrics of the song. Finally, it is a given that the instrumental track is making use of many traditional instruments to recreate the traditional music style of old Korean songs. After such a big change with ‘Lit’, ONEUS still took the risk to explore an even broader genre with their song ‘A Song Written Easily’. Classified as a dance track, ‘A Song Written Easily’ is expressing romantic and nostalgic feelings. And the MV’s visuals were in accordance with the vibes of the song as they filmed all the scenes outside, with a lot of nature, including specific scenes with flowers, emphasizing the romantic of the music through the visuals. ‘A Song Written Easily’ is also very appreciated by the fans for displaying nicely all the member’s voices, especially SeoHo. In between the release of ‘A Song Written Easily’ and their next comeback, ONEUS participated in the survival show “Road To Kingdom”, and being in competition only helped them to improve their creativity and capacity. That is how they came up with a whole new concept and style in ‘Come Back Home’. For this comeback, the first ONEUS Concept Film was released. Through this new format, they managed to establish a proper and deeper storyline for their following comeback. The members were monarchs destined to save the prince, which allowed including more than simple MV scenes, but entire battle sequences. The costumes, visuals, acting, and backgrounds really managed to bring the fans into ONEUS’ brand-new universe. And of course, the song sounds as mystical as the storyline. But once again, ONEUS did not stick to one genre as the album “LIVED” also includes fresh and cheerful songs such as ‘Dizzy’ or ‘Airplane’. The following comeback continued on the light atmosphere of the previous album’s B-side with the title song ‘BBUSYEO’. A fun and fresh song with a childish and colorful MV. ONEUS went all in into a different genre. If their previous comeback was somehow dark, this one was very light and joyful. The song is super catchy and could easily be part of your workout playlist to boost you. While in the MV, a light atmosphere was portrayed by the members playing between themselves and simply acting as energetic kids. But ONEUS did not stick to the cheerful music for so long as their next comeback followed the storyline of “LIVED”, continuing in a dark universe. ONEUS’ comeback with ‘No Diggity’ has been a complete revolution in ONEUS’ playlist. The song was both powerful and catchy with wonderful vocal parts, they achieved the perfect balance with ‘No Diggity’. The MV and dance also followed this feeling. The MV was mostly filmed in dark settings and obscure rooms, but it was always combined with many neon or glowing lights. The same goes for the dance, they made it as powerful as the music itself, and the members still insist that it is one of their hardest choreography so far. After so many genres try out, fans thought ONEUS were going to stick to the powerful pop song, but they didn’t. For their comeback ‘Black Mirror’, they were bold enough to try making a Funk song, and it was only a success. The MV was again following the music as it had a vintage aesthetic, both through the outfit the members were wearing, and the setting and glitch effects used, making it look like an old TV screen. In the song and dance, some references to Michael Jackson were also made, which only emphasized the vintage vibes, bringing the fans back directly to the 80s. Not long after the release of ‘Black Mirror’, ONEUS released two songs that were part of their Theatre series. So far, the theatre songs were only covers, but this time, ONEUS came with their own songs, inspired by movies. Starting with ‘Shut Up 받고 Crazy Hot’, obviously inspired by the Mad Max series. The song was once again very powerful and unique, as they used a lot of piano sounds, which isn’t common for such powerful songs. The MV was sort of a remake of the Mad Max movies, the members had some kind of protection all over their bodies, and they also had bandages and a big truck was part of the background. The second theatre song brought the fans back to the release of ‘BBUSYEO’ and ‘Airplane’ as ‘Life Is Beautiful’ was the perfect opposite of the other theatre song. The aesthetic of the MV was inspired this time by the movie Dead Poet’s society, which brings back to the lyrics of the song that say to enjoy life to its fullest. ‘Life Is Beautiful’ could be considered a summer song for its joyful vibes and scenes at the beach. Only a few months later, ONEUS was back on stage with their comeback ‘LUNA’, another try for the traditional genre, mixed with the romantic feeling from ‘A Song Written Easily’. And it also goes for the lyrics that depict an impossible love story based on an old Korean legend. And if ‘LUNA’ is in the same genre as ‘Lit’ the atmosphere of the two songs and MVs are completely different. ‘LUNA’ felt like an upgraded version to many fans, as this time, the members even added props to the choreography. And one challenge that ONEUS successfully passed with this song is to include absolutely no English words. ‘LUNA’ is also the song with which ONEUS got their first win on a music show. Once again, ONEUS did not go on with the same concept twice in a row, on the contrary, they decided to continue the storyline from “LIVED” and “DEVIL” eras. In their comeback ‘Bring It On’ ONEUS showed once again how powerful they can be both in their song and dance. And if it follows the same storyline and universe as the previous comeback, once again the concept isn’t the same. So long after “Road To Kingdom”, ONEUS were back with concept films that made the fans’ mind blow. The whole MV seems to portray a giant game that might be similar to “Alice In Borderland” according to many TO MOON who analyzed in detail all the trailers and the MV. And maybe, the title of the album TRICKSTER and the name of the intro ‘Who Got The Joker’ are some clues in this game. And ONEUS last comeback as of today is again a different concept. They went for the romantic track, but not in a nostalgic way for once. In ‘Same Scent’, ONEUS chose to try a sensual and elegant concept, which was both fresh and new for the group. The storyline for this comeback was based on the 7 deadly sins, incarnated by each of the members. With this comeback, fans got to see a new side of each member, and everyone seemed pleased. Even without doing a comeback, ONEUS has proven to be “Kings of concepts” by doing many covers, or more recently, at the 2022 KBS Gayo Daechukje, where ONEUS revealed a special version of ‘Same Scent’. ONEUS mixed the elegant and sensual dance of ‘Same Scent’ with the traditional concept of ‘LUNA’. The fans were amazed by the brand-new traditional outfits made especially for this performance. By mixing such different concepts, ONEUS once again allowed everyone to see their ability to transform their own works into a new piece every time.   2022-2023 ONEUS “REACH FOR US” 1st World Tour: Cities And Ticket Details WORLD TOUR|Sep 30, 2022 Kpopmap Fan Interview: Six TO MOON From Seohocafe Talk About Their Favorite Group ONEUS & Their Bias SeoHo by FANS|Aug 12, 2022 QUIZ: Which ONEUS Member Will Be Your Boyfriend?
