Some K-Pop groups have also disguised as zombies in their Halloween specials. Nevertheless, it is not just the Halloween version of the clip that we are concerned with here, but the zombie elements contained in the music videos itself, regardless of whether the release date is on Halloween or not. You may not be able to survive the scenes of “Train to Busan”, because there weren’t many survivors in the movie as well. However, most K-Pop idols were able to escape from the tragic apocalypse in their music videos. Check them out below.

1. PURPLE KISS - ‘Zombie’

2. SunMi - ‘You can’t sit with us'

Even zombies can’t stop SunMi’s passion for music. SunMi faced an onslaught of zombies while she was at the CD store with her friends. Despite this, SunMi did not panic, but managed to defeat the zombies with her marksmanship and combat prowess. While fighting against the zombies, SunMi proved what ‘You can’t sit with us’ really meant –- “don’t surrender to the zombies, they don’t deserve to devour humans”. Never let any external factors disrupt what you are doing, especially when it comes to music.

3. T-ARA - ‘Lovey-Dovey’

When it comes to zombie-themed music videos, T-ARA’s ‘Lovey-Dovey’ is definitely one of the prototypes. Although the music video first premiered almost 10 years ago, it still serves as a paradigm for later zombie-related K-Pop music videos. The MV was set in a club where zombies were mixed into the crowd. The DJ played loud music which drown out the screams of the victims and eventually everyone was zombified. The members of T-ARA insisted on dancing until the end, but they inevitably became part of a zombie dance troupe.

4. TWICE - ‘Like OOH-AAH’

‘Like OOH-AAH’ contained a storyline featuring zombies in addition to being TWICE’s outstanding debut music video. In the video, TWICE dressed in school uniforms and street-style attire, dancing freely while surrounded by zombies. The ending of the story was unexpected. TWICE was not besieged by zombies. Instead, the girls subdued the zombies with amiable charm. The zombies regained their heartbeat and human consciousness, and they even danced joyfully with TWICE.

5. Golden Child - ‘Burn It’

Contrast to TWICE’s ‘Like OOH-AAH’ happy ending, Golden Child’s ‘Burn It’ had a miserable and resigning denouement. Rather than just a simple music video, ‘Burn It’ was more like a mini film with all the necessary climaxes and plots. There were three main scenarios in this mini-drama, all of which were really touching. The first scene was when Bong JaeHyun accompanied his mother who had turned into a zombie. Although he knew that his mother was no longer human, he just couldn’t bear to execute her, so he just tied her up. The second scene was about Y, BoMin, and the lead actress. Y used himself as bait to lure the zombies away from BoMin and the girl. At the end, even though the girl was bitten, BoMin did not abandon her and hugged the girl to comfort her. The third part was the brotherhood between TAG and JooChan. TAG was severely wounded and bitten by the zombies. He attempted suicide with a gun as he was afraid that he would turn into a zombie and harm JooChan, but JooChan wanted to keep his best friend alive no matter what.

6. 4MINUTE - ‘What’s Your Name?’

After all members of 4MINUTE were bitten, the girls surprisingly integrated into the zombie society with their cool punk style. The scene of the MV was in line with the transition of the melody. When the music shifted from the chorus to the bridge, the storyline also coincided with the outbreak of the zombie apocalypse, which contrasted with the previous scenes showing the daily tweets of 4MINUTE members. Despite this, 4MINUTE still managed to rock out with their unique zombie style.

7. LABOUM - ‘Turn It On’

LABOUM presented a tragic story of forbidden love between humans and zombies. The girls originally intended to tame the zombified male actor. They trained him with human cognitive skills in the hope that the actor would regain consciousness. However, when they were about to succeed, a group of miscellaneous zombies suddenly ambushed the girls and transformed them into zombies. In the end, the male actor was able to turn back into normal people, while the girls were turned into zombies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUYvvnaZnoI&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=SUPERSOUNDBugs%21

8. DAY6 - ‘Zombie’

Unlike the typical “zombie”, the “zombie” in DAY6’s song was like a metaphor that described the soulless lives of many people during COVID-19. The lyrics “I feel like I became a zombie, with an empty head and an empty heart. A scarecrow without a brain”, conveyed many people’s feelings and sense of helplessness and disparity that encountered during the pandemic. Everyone lives a drifting life, waiting for another repetitive day to pass. Even though we are human, we are like the walking dead because, during the COVID-19 era, almost everything comes to a halt. The “zombie” in DAY6’s song is more of a personification for our negative emotions than a physically scary character.
